Xiongguanlong is a small tyrannosaur which balanced its body with a long tail, like most other theropods. It was intermediate in size between earlier tyrannosauroids from the Barremian and later tyrannosaurids from the Late Cretaceous, such as Tyrannosaurus.
It is speculated that tyrannosaurs of this type have left their natural habitat in Asia to go to North America via the Beringia land bridge.
Although he was a member of the tyrannosaur family, he was not the dominant predator but a prey for the big predators of his time.
