Marrella

The size of Marrella and its presence in large quantities in the Burgess Shale deposit suggests that this arthropod was near the base of the food chain. Its anatomy reminds one of an animal scavenger or suspensivore. With other animals of unexpected and unique shapes, Anomalocaris, Wiwaxia, Opabinia, Yohoia and many others, the Marrella has demonstrated that the fauna of the "soft-bodied" animals of the Burgess Shale deposits is much more complex and rich than what had originally been imagined.
