Halszkaraptor is a semi-aquatic cousin of velociraptor. This small piscivore had characteristics that allowed him to spend time both on the water and on land, including robust hind limbs for running and smaller lower limbs in the form of fins for swimming. The short tail would have brought the center of gravity further forward, which is more useful for swimming than for walking. The torso would have been held more vertical than normal with the theropods. To this end, there are adaptations for improved extension of the hind limb, hip joint and femur. He had a lot of bright, back-curved teeth in his mouth, a long neck and sensory neurons in his snout that might have allowed him to detect the vibrations in the water, in order to chase the fish. He spends most of his time in the water but breeds on dry land.
